New User Registration

Post by Kassidy »

New User Registration now requires administrator approval. It's sad that this measure has to be taken, but it seems that spammers are manually registering accounts and are posting quite maliciously (so the CAPTCHA we already have in place isn't going to prevent much).

This morning's one was particularily bad in comparison to most, so we will, for the time being, have to inconvenience new ligitimate users from being able to register and post immediately. This is unfortunate, but I'm left with little option at this stage to at least address the problem as quickly as possible.

... :-(
The good ones always suffer from the actions of the bad ones. I agree with you and wish you good luck with approving.

So much for all of us having alternate accounts.

I sort of wonder if the bots are really just spammer or if someone is just pissed at us.

The good news is that so far this has stopped 3 confirmable spam accounts from being able to post.

Changed to a Q&A Captcha method.
Users now get questions to answer, instead of typing what's in the unreadable image

I agree. This is a good idea.

Rabite! That's the answer for anything easy! Make it a rabite question! xD
