Circle of Mana trademarked

Post by Dr. Sheexy »

So, http://www.ff-reunion.net/ff14/2012/09/07/sqex_news_828 says that Square-Enix has trademarked the name "Circle of Mana".

Anyone wanna hedge some bets on what's gonna happen with it?

It will likely be an iPhone/Android app, judging by S-E's behavior with "old school series". Which will be... ooookay. But seeing the issues I had from SoM on the iPhone, I'm not terribly excited about that notion.

What I'm REALLY hoping for is a Wii U eShop sort of thing because I think multiplayer in the Mana style on the Wii U could be so much fun with the main character on the GamePad and the other two on regular Controllers. The GamePad could be important to the mechanics of the game in some sort of way.

That's pretty unlikely though.

A bit more likely (but still not as likely as iPhone) would be for the 3DS. That thing is built for multiplayer adventures and seeing Mana in 3D would be awesome. :D

I was thinking an app style thing too after some of the other Square-Enix stuff I've seen lately. Really hope it doesn't go in that direction cause I'll likely never touch it.

I'd love for it to be 3DS though, overhead view like SoM but with a nice little 3D effect that's just for looks, no gimmicks with it. That'd be neat, especially if they could get Grezzo in on that it since they redid Ocarina of Time so beautifully. But I dunno how likely or unlikely that would be to happen.

If it comes out for 3DS, that'll be my motivation to pick up a 3DS... If it comes out on WiiU, then it won't be happening any time soon for me. Mobile is possible, I guess, but it really isn't a good platform for that sort of thing, though like you both say, given the trend that SE has been following lately that probably will be the result.

I wonder if it's going to be a console release or an iOS release (since iOS is getting popular).

Any chance the "Circle" might signify a dual release of SoM and SD3 in a single package? You know, bring the Mana series full circle so to speak. The demand for SD3 is so great that people are now making Secret of Mana 2 carts and charging a new car payment for them. Let's face it, Square-Enix has rung every last drop out of the Final Fantasy back catalog, blessed us with a brilliant port of Chrono Trigger and have only re-vamped one Mana title. It's time Square-Enix threw the Mana clan a bone!

Yeah, but Square also has Kingdom Hearts, their new cash cow to take FF's place.
