You have start from a clean save slot. Even if you have just played to Potos and beat the Mantis Ant you have start over. No exceptions.
There wont be any death penalties. It seems pointless since this is a race to beat the game as fast as possible. This is not a 100 meters race :P
After you have beaten the game, please provide us a photo of your last save before last boss. Or if you played this game on an emulator, mail me the srm file. I won't accept save states (zst files).

A subcontest: Beat the game as low level as possible

Don't stop playing SoM even after there is a winner. Try your best and beat the game and become second or third.

Rules
*You must start a clean game, you cant continue an already started game, even its only played 20 minutes.
*Please, be honest with your gameplay and other participants.
*Cheating is not allowed
*When you finished the game, please as soon as possible post your ending time so we all know.
*No excuses are acceptable
*If playing with emulators, speeding up the game's intended speed is strictly forbidden.

I'd forgotten just how annoying it is to have a ghost get stuck behind a tree or something. Agh!

Ha, I have no time now for this. I may still make an attempt, but I doubt I'll get far.

Nearly 11 hours sitting in front of the console non-stop... I was planning on doing it in less, but I decided that I was dying FAR too often toward the beginning of the game due to lack of sensible levelling...

And then of course there was smeggin' Pure Land! ARGH!

Woo! I totally came in and did it out of nowhere!

How the heck did you manage that Kassidy?!
My two friends and I came in at almost exactly 12 hours 6:00 PM to 6:14 AM
Ended up with level 52/51/51.
Had three magics at level 8 (Luna-Sprite, Gnome-Sprite, Undine-Girl), the rest at around 3-4.

I gotta say though, the SNES CRASHED ON US FOUR TIMES.
Not even cool, had to end up doing the Light Temple, Northtown Ruins and Moon Palace/getting midge mallet/getting moogle belt TWICE. Also, when it crashed in the pure land we lost 1/3 of our team to sleep.

I guess that is what I get for trying it on the real deal eh?

I say we did pretty good considering.

Anyone else remember to drop Truffle back off at his house? :P

Oh yeah, anyone else see TWO Shadow Zeroes on the trip?!
TWO SHADOW ZEROES!!! FLIPPIN' INSANE!
Saw a Mimic Chest too, those are kinda rare.

Man, we had a blast!
We didn't really keep track, so here are our best estimations:
Pandora Ruins at 8.
Flammie at midnight.
Underground City at 3:00
Pure Land at 4:30 (We seriously tanked through it, it took very very little time)
We got to Dark Lich at 5:45

Good show there. That really sucks having it crash like that. I was worried at one point, the transparency layers started doing really weird stuff on screen and I thought the whole thing was going to go to pot.

Nah, Truffle had a nice long walk from Mandala. ;) I didn't get any Shadow Zeroes though! Lucky you! But then again I was hardly opening any chests (I got three Doom Traps in a row at one point, and though I survived them all I was not impressed).

During this run, 1L of Coca Cola, 7 pieces of Orbit Complete, 6 cheese crackers with peanut butter, and one cup of tea were consumed. Neko made himself a tidy profit at my expense.

Few more times (edited down, I went a bit overkill... I have all boss times noted):
Reached Upperland at 20:00
Flammie saved the day at 22:45
The Lost Continent rose shortly after Midnight.
The Mana Fortress was activated at 01:22
Pure Land was tackled at 02:21
The Mana Tree died at about 03:00
Then followed an hour of getting money for armour before tackling the Fortress in one run.

Randi, level 45; Wearing Needle Helm, Vestguard and Gauntlet, wielding Dragon Buster
Purim, level 39; Wearing Tiger Cap, Battle Suit and Ivy Amulet, wielding Watt's Axe
Magic: Luna 5, Undine 4, Dryad 4
Popoie, level 45; Wearing Needle Helm, Vestguard and Gauntlet, wielding Flail of Hope
Magic: Gnome 6, Salamando 5, Luna 7, Shade 3, Undine 7, Sylphid 5, Dryad 4

Faced Thanatos at around 04:30.
Mana Beast took the final hit at 04:47

I was so surprised to see the first Shadow Zero pop up, I was right in the middle of explaining about how rare they were too! It was so weird! I was explaining how they appear in the Palace of Darkness the most, and it dropped right off of a Dark Knight.

Then the other one was out of nowhere, picked it up in the Underground City off a Fiend Head (another enemy found mostly in the Palace of Darkness... hmm).

It was nuts!
