I know I shouldn't be resurrecting this dead old thread . . . I'm sorry! But I found something really funny. . . . Maybe I'm blind, but had anyone mentioned . . . Secret of Mana? I mean, this is The Seikens Board! Oh, but I second any Zelda game, too.

If you are going to go Zelda I would recommend Twilight Princess. It was a rough 40 hours for me on my first run. I 100% though so less if you're just going for the story. Either way it'll satisfy you until something else comes along.
