Quick question:

Im still toying with the idea of a class change/upgrade system similar to SwoM...I know how I can make it work, but it would be a bit limiting for characters. Im not sure what to do, so I'll see if I can get you guys' feedback on it.

If you've ever played SwoM, then you'll know what Im talking about:

Basically, the player only gets one of 6 basic classes to start with. From then on, they're free to level up any of those six classes. They're free to multi-class and combine different ones together. If they reach a certain requirement, they get a class upgrade.

Ex. Player levels up Warrior to X level. Warrior then levels up Sage to X level. Player becomes a Paladin. etc.

That is how I would do it. Basically they meet the prerequisites for a Prestige Class, the only thing I would change is make it voluntary. So if they meet the requirements for the Paladin, but want to become a Cleric, let them bypass Paladin and become a Cleric when the meet the requirements.

Keep in mind Cleric is a basic class (Sage). Im going by SwoM classes. I know some players won't like it very much, seeing as it'll limit what they want to do. Thats pretty much my dillema...

Sorry, just picked a class off the top of my head, didn't reference anything.

I fail to understand how this is limiting though? I mean D&D was far more limited.

Put it this way:

D&D, you're given up to 11 base classes and entire books of prestige classes...I don't see how that is limiting.

With my game, it would be 6 classes with 2 prestige classes for each base class...

Eh, I suppose that's true, but with all the limitations you get in D&D you can rarely get anywhere with your character. You spend all your characters stuff aiming towards one goal, and usually when you get there, you realize that the Prestige you were working for isn't worth it anymore. At least with this you can simply start taking new classes and probably easily reach a different goal.

Well not in this case...like with Mana's class system, theres no reverting back, plus you only get two real choices for your presieges. I know Im adding a couple race-specific presteige classes to add a bit more variety.
