Minecraft

Post by Dr. Sheexy »

First off, a disclaimer. Do not touch this game if you have any important deadlines etc. because it tends to eat up time. XD

Has anyone tried minecraft?

For those of you who haven't seen it I'll try to explain. The best way I can put it is if Legos and an RPG had some sort of magic baby. Also it's kind of survival horror at times...

The gist of the game is you punch blocks to get blocks so you can build with the blocks to go find other blocks so you can build with them. You can pretty much do what you want, want to build a house? Build that house. Want to build a castle? Build that castle. That mountain in your way? Break it down and move it. Though that last one will take a while. XD

Probably the graphics would be the part of the game people would complain about, but I dunno, it's kinda neat. Plus it can actually be very pretty due to the random world generator:

The game has a neat feeling to it, I dunno why but it makes me feel like I'm the last person alive in the world and I've gotta survive by building stuff and keeping my time busy so I don't go crazy alone, all the while protecting myself from the stuff around me.

Right now it's still in alpha and it's only 13 USD, 10 Euro. The creator updates pretty much every week, once the multiplayer gets fixed up I think he's gonna put it into beta mode and the price is going to double.

There is actually a free version you can mess with here: http://minecraft.net/play.jsp
It doesn't have the same focus as the alpha though, this free version is more of a creative version where you can just build stuff.

In the actual alpha game (known as survival sometimes) you start with nothing and have to gather resources and survive through the night.

Anyways, if anyone is going to try the game you might want to ask me for pointers or watch some videos online because since it's still in alpha they haven't made a tutorial yet and it's really tricky if you don't know what you're doing.

So yeah, anyone else play it?

This looks way too fun to even consider playing =(

Thanks for the deadline disclaimer!

On that note it would be cool if someone made some palaces or places from Secret of Mana!

Haha, Kassidy and I were actually talking about that.
