don't you think it's because people are more used to write things in word, etc etc? than with other similar software which are free?

Yahoo! is not so well known here in Sweden, it's very popular in southeast asia though. probably because one of it's co-founder is an asian. anyway the reason Microsoft bought Yahoo is because they want to be able to stand against Google.
