in your case, I'd recommend Azumanga Daioh, Tenchi (All of them), Ranma 1/2.

If you're into intellectual action, try the R.O.D. series.

I love Ranma 1/2, Ryoga's my favorite. Ranma's too much of a jerk for my tastes...

I've seen the R.O.D. OVA, but not the series.

While it may not look it at first, it DOES tie into the OVA

Could give the anime a shot. Lately I've just been watching harem and thriller, harem and thriller. Come to think of it the last pure-ish action anime I watched was Busou Renkin.

Ranma isnt really all that much of a jerk, per se. He's mostly at the wrong place, at the wrong time and talking his way out of things makes it worse.

He is pretty cocky though, you have got to admit that.

Personally I just have a thing for the "not main heroes" guys in stories. Ryoga from Ranma 1/2, Koga from Inuyasha, and Clef from Magic Knight Rayearth. They are all good guys, but they aren't like the main good guys. I don't know. I just kinda like underdog characters.

Pssh Jerks? I don't think I've seen more general otakus who dislike a main character more than Makoto Ito from School Days. <.<

Kinda like how one of my fave characters in ROD is Drake. He's not the main character, but he kicks ass.

I haven't seen the series, but I know what you mean. Jade Curtiss is another example. He's not the main character, but he's still 100x cooler than Luke.
