Yeah, but it only takes one hit to kill, and that does get pretty tough at times, especially the enemies that seem to occasionally or even constantly disregard recoil.

If I can beat Legend of Mana's No Future Mode at level 1 with no pet, abilities, or STs, and with a bronze sword and no other equipment, this shouldn't be too rough for me.

Running on my completely untested theory that HP gained on level up is based on VIT, class changing earlier will mean that your VIT is inherently higher sooner, meaning that you'll get bigger HP boosts sooner. It seems to be that everyone hitting 999 HP isn't too awfully hard, but hitting that mark ...

I'm still only 34, I kinda went overboard on the whole "OH GOD I NEED THE ITEMS NOW" mentality, but it's good to have out of the way. Maybe I should put off the last 3 stones for now and just train myself to 38. Seems a sound option to me, the enemies in that last dungeon were way stronger...
