Now, I've seen some japanese live actions, based on anime's and they sometimes suck, but the Death Note movie rocked. They did great on the Shinigami CG and the star that stole the show was Ken'ichi Matsuyama, who played L. The guy just was perfect for the role.
This movie worked for one main reason: It was very realistic, aside from the Shinigami. On top of that, it was produced by Warner Bros, which explains the ending credits by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Meh, I've never been a fan of Japanese live-action movies based on anime or manga. They always turn out to be garbage. I can't help but think back upon the live action Boogiepop Phantom movie. Jeez.
It's just that actual human beings utterly fail to portray any sort of anime character, so it always looks like crap to me. That's why I despise cosplay as well. <.<
XD. I've seen what Piccolo Daimoh is supposed to look like. He's creepy. Now, I'll agree that stuff that are too outragous, like ki blasts and junk shouldn't be made Live Action, but Death Note did a good job CGing the Shinigami, like Ryuuku, and the rest of the series was just invisible phenomenon that good acting could take care of. (IE: Sudden heart attacks.)
