According to the judges at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, it's Halo 3.

Halo 3.
They picked Halo 3.

The choices were between Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Portal, Rock Band, Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fit.

And they picked Halo 3.
Unbelievable.

Apparently they picked Halo 3 because of online features and such, and to quote from them: "Halo 3, just as Halo 2 did before it, presents a roadmap for the way online will be integrated in videogames in the coming years."
Doesn't saying Halo 2 already did this kind of defeat the purpose of picking it as an "innovation"?

But besides that, what about Halo 3 is any more innovative than Halo 2 or even Halo 1. The series has brought forth a swath of uninspired space marine themed fps games, if anything Halo 3 should be voted as one of the least innovative.

Seriously?! They picked Halo 3? Look at the other games it was up against! Portal or Super Mario Galaxy should have easily picked this award up.
This is why we can't have nice games anymore.

The World Ends With You is also good in the RPG genre it seems.

But yes, Halo 3 isn't very innovative at all.

Portal is about the only game on that list that would deserve that title. Though it doesn't surprise me that Halo 3 would come off with a win. Game politics for you.

I guess in this case, "Most innovative" was indicative of how well the publisher marketed to the judges.

Is it me, or did Karl Rove get a seat on Microsoft's board? This eerily smacks of the ISO committee-stuffing brouhaha.

Portal is.

But Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (PC) is also very innovative. You can stand to a wall with your back (next to a door opening) and shoot with only your arm in the right direction or make a quick move. You'll need to see videos.....

Yeah definitely Portal. Curious to see what would be the choice for 2008. All kinds of new titles and genres this year.
