Turns out he was the one who got Aomono to do the character designs. Also he was responsible for creating the Chocobos and Moogles, and the idea for the Crystals. Sakaguchi says this interesting thing about him:
"He had this really rough demeanor -- he liked going around in a leather jacket most of the time -- and then you'd look at his art and he's drawing chocobos and other cute things. That juxtaposition was what made him such a fascinating guy, but his viewpoint really contributed a lot to the world of FF."
