Happy very belated holidays everyone! I’d have posted this sooner, but the e-mail about it was lost to my terrifyingly disorganized inbox from last semester, but now it has surfaced, hooray!

OC Remix did another Christmas album this year. Since I can’t figure out how the heck the new audio player works on the site anymore, you’ll have to head to the source to listen to the music:

An Overclocked Christmas: Volume 6

Once again, Rozovian, who I’ve mentioned before in a few updates about an SD3 fan album, took part. This time Rozovian provided two tracks, one of which involves tracks from Secret of Mana. According to Rozovian, the remix consists of, “Two sources, with a reference to a third. I called it Wish. Guess the main source. ; )”

I’m placing all of my money on the main source being “Happenings of a Moonlit Night”.

Joking aside, the track is a really relaxing almost somber sounding keyboardy track which really fits the mood of the weather outside my window right now. Also, see if you can pick out the three tracks involved. I can catch Wish and Fear of the Heavens, but the third is lost on me. I can only assume it is “Happenings of a Moonlit Night”.

According to FF-Reunion Square-Enix has trademarked the name “Circle of Mana”.

I can only hope it’s a quest to bring the ring menu back.

Hey everyone, belated holidays to you all, things have gotten super busy for me since grad school started so I haven’t had time to update the site at all. I don’t expect I’ll be able to update the site much until the summer or so, so expect things to keep pretty slow around here.

Anyway, OCRemix released another Christmas themed album and you can find it here. One track from the album is by Rozovian, who I’ve mentioned before in a few updates (he’s heading up the secret SD3 album, more news on that soon… possibly). It’s a remix of A Cold Beat from Heroes of Mana, and it’s the first HoM remix I’ve heard myself. Check it out! Don’t forget to check out the rest of the album too.

So, in my determination to study up for a test I have tomorrow I neglected to put up the MMM update at a decent time today.

And that’s how I picked this track!

If you can put up with the Rising Sun bits you can really enjoy the Fighting Arena and Endless Battlefield bits of this piece. I really like how it starts out all happy and carefree as the Rising Sun appears over the story and then suddenly you can imagine the Hero of FFA and his hardships fighting for Dark Lord’s enjoyment in the Fighting Arena. Then he escapes out onto the Endless Battlefield with a mission to save the world, and another Rising Sun appears because a new day has begun in his life. Yeah that’s pretty deep right? Ok maybe not, but I’ve always thought this album could use a Fantasia-esque animation to go along with the music. The only problem I see is that it kind of covers a lot of ground once you get to the Parting and Decisive Battle track.

Also has anyone ever noticed that music tracks from GBA or DS have a certain distant sound to them when listening to them on headphones? I’m not sure if that’s the way to describe it, but they just sound very different to me if they’re not coming out of tiny speakers. I wonder how much work goes into making them sound good from tiny speakers. Stuff like that is so interesting, unlike the paper I’m writing! Woo!

I’ve had a real urge to play Legend of Mana lately, but I don’t have a Playstation or the game on me! Maybe I’ll have to get a PSP and get the game on PSN sometime. It’s my birthday tomorrow so maybe I’ll treat myself to something nice like that soon!

For today’s music I’ve picked a little bit of a short one, but this is a song I could listen to over and over again. For me, this is the music that instantly comes to mind when I think of Legend of Mana. It’s so nice and calm and full of happy memories.

So I was trying to pick out a song for this week like I always do: a last minute desperate search through my WinAmp library. Going through songs I could use I find myself thinking, no no I can’t use that one I’ve used it before, or I’ve already used that one a couple of times. So I picked one track because I really like it, but I know I’ve used it before, I just didn’t remember when. I decided to search through the old MMM posts to see when I used it, and lo’ and behold it was back in 2007. I just think it’s pretty funny I remember all the tracks I’ve used in the past 4 years I’ve been doing this update, and I wonder why I can’t use that brain power for more useful things, haha.

Anyway, you’ve heard it before if you’ve been with us for 4 years, but here it is again!
