Here is a list of the many kinds of armor you’ll be wearing during your adventure. Those are body armor, helmets and shields. Most gear can be purchased in stores but a significant amount is found inside chests within dungeons. Those are usually one-of-a-kind and should not be sold off. As with weapons, try to upgrade your gear as soon as possible.
Body Armor
Body armor provides the majority of Sumo’s defense. A few of them provide additional elemental protection, so you’d better keep them in your inventory.

Notes: You can purchase this armor in the Northeastern Seas Armor. It reduces damage from ice attacks by 25% but increases damage from fire attacks by 25%..

Guide description: “An armor made from the hard scales of a dragon. Although it is quite heavy, it has more than enough defensive power to compensate for this.”

Helmets
Just as with body armor, helmets increase Sumo’s defense power. Only the Mythril Helm provides additional elemental protection, however.

Shields
Shields DO NOT increase defense. Instead they block enemy projectiles based on which shield they are. Here is a key of blocked projectiles groups.
A – Dagger, harpoon, spear, mimic head.
B – Pincers, blizzard, sword, rapier.
C – Voice (strange voice), needles, poison thread, claw.
D – Axe, ring beam, lightning bolt, scorpion tail.
E – Boulder, fire.
F – Hero’s reflection, beam, shuriken, thunder, flare.
