MMW – Pandora’s Vox

Posted on September 24th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

OK, I’m late again. I’m afraid work has taken it’s toll on me this week, and in spite making some headway on other content, my tiredness Monday and Tuesday led me to forget about this completely. But to make up for this, I’m putting up two tracks from this great Doujin Album: Pandora’s Vox. It was released at Comiket 74, and contains 8 tracks remixing some of your favourite Secret of Mana tracks.

The two being brought to you here are The Sorceror (from the fight against Dark Lich) and This Sole Wish (the Mana Beast approaches the Fortress). Enjoy, and let us know your feedback!

Mana Music Tuesday

Posted on September 16th, 2008 by Dr. Sheexy

Welcome to Seikens’ Mana Music Tuesday! Brought to you by Sheexy with a video brought to him by Kassidy who found it on Youtube. Business here at Seikens is a mysterious thing indeed.

Here is Swivel as performed by a fan NicoNicoDouga. The vocals are made using Vocaloid 2, with the voice of Hatsune Miku.

And in a bizzare chain of events I actually have no idea what this sounds like, I’ve just looked at the pictures.
I don’t have headphones here at school.
So lemme know how it sounds please?

Very quick update for this as I’m running myself into the ground (hence the delay). The Ruined Ground, track from Children of Mana. Enjoy!

Triple MMM – FFA Parting

Posted on September 1st, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

I’d like to take a venture back today to the times when the only way to buy game music CDs was to find the odd one or two gems among the long lists of import items from Japan, streamed out on the black and white pages of a booklet no bigger than a Christmas card; 3 A4 pages folded in half with the consistency of toilet paper, and held together by a staple that was short a gram of tin. You were even lucky if you got a dot-matrix photocopy of Lupin Sansei on the cover.

Well back in those days was when I ordered Seiken Densetsu: Omoi wa Shirabe ni Nosete, and was blown away by how a gameboy soundtrack could be taken to the heights of orchestral greatness. I freely admit that it was the first time I had experienced such a rich treatment for a videogame soundtrack (in particular for a handheld, monochrome, 4 chiptune channel RPG).

A track that brings together an excellent example of the variety of sounds on this album, and also put me most in mind of a film soundtrack, is Parting, the fifth track on the disc. Starting off with Dungeon 2 meeting Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, moving through a passionate flamenco setting for Fight 2, then mellowing out with a flute and piano build up for In Sorrow which leads directly into Let Thoughts Ride on Knowledge for another rollercoaster of emotion.

Exquisite. If you haven’t grabbed a copy of this yet, you really should. And just to give you a taster and further prove that you’ll love it, this piece is today’s MMM. Enjoy!

Seiken Densetsu 2 coming to VC for Wii!

Posted on August 30th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

KassidyNext month, for the cost of 800 Wii points (8 USD), Wii users in Japan will be able to purchase Seiken Densetsu 2 (also known as Secret of Mana) on the Virtual Console! That said, it has yet to be announced whether this will extend outside Japan, or whether this will mean other Mana titles will make it on to the VC, including Seiken Densetsu 3, which was unseen outside Japan.

We’re yet to know whether there are any enhancements to the game or not. Between Force Unleashed, Megaman 9, and now this, I get the feeling a Wii will soon be wiinging it’s way into my home.

Source – Thanks to Kimiko on the board for pointing us to this!

Triple MMM – NES Style

Posted on August 24th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

Dark LichOK, so sorting through files and messing around with stuff I happened to concoct this piece of madness using a MIDI and a chiptune generator. The result? Well, the theme Sorceror from Secret of Mana (aka the Dark Lich theme) as it would sound like with an slightly boosted NES (so basically, this is using the basic sounds of the NES, but more simultaneous channels that the NES would be able to handle, so it is cheating just a bit).

On the other hand, the sprite you see to the left does fit in with NES specifications… mostly… Number of concurrent colours, and the palette itself match, but I think this is slightly bigger than most sprites you would see on the NES.

So overall, this really is nothing like what the battle would be on the NES if Secret of Mana had been released back then, but you know what? It’s still fun! And you’re getting it early (for once)!

Seiken Densetsu 3 Characters

Posted on August 21st, 2008 by Dr. Sheexy

Kassidy rewrote all of the Seiken Densetsu 3 Character Summaries and added those awesome chibi scans I got a few months ago onto the page, making it a much nicer place.

That’s just one of about a billion things Kassidy has been working on the site lately, he’s seriously been all over the place. No telling what will be updated next.

Speaking of updates, any coming from me are going to be very far and few between as I challenged my laptop to a duel, and won. My poor laptop smashed into the ground and promptly gave up living, and I haven’t been able to get it fixed.
And next weekend or so I return to my college adventures and back to my college house where I guess I’ll have to glean time on my roommate’s and cousin’s computers to work on the site.

When your laptop challenges you to a duel it is a lose-lose situation people.

More updates on stuff later!

Secret of Mana – Magic – Improvements

Posted on August 20th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

KassidyVery small update, we’ve done a bit of an expansion on our information for the Magic from Secret of Mana.

If you head on over to Purim and Popoie’s magic, you’ll find first off that the descriptions have been updated and expanded to better document what the spells actually do. But not only that, we’ve also touched up some of the animations for the spells themselves, and, exclusive to Seikens, we bring you the animations of the elemental spirits when the spells are cast in the game.

This is just the first in a few bits and bobs here and there which we will be bringing to you soon.

Mana Music Monday – Forest Tell Us

Posted on August 18th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

KassidyThis week we bring you another track from the doujin album by project-Delta, Forest Tell Us, which is a remixed vocal rendition of What the Forest Told Me from Secret of Mana’s OST.

Now while you enjoy the music (btw, we always love to know what you think, so please drop us a comment), just to let you know that although we seem quiet, we have been working behind the scenes on touching up a few things here and there content-wise, which is one of those long processes that takes time, sadly. But we’re getting there.

Trust me, I’m a doctor.

Mana Music Monday

Posted on August 11th, 2008 by Kassidy Kearey

KassidyYes, Monday! Your calendars are right, you are reading those very words, and this week Mana Music Monday happens on Monday. And that’s not all that’s being worked on!

But more on that later. For now, and coninuing with the MinamoTrance album, here is another track called DangerZone by RedAlice, which, surprisingly enough, is a remix of the track Danger from Secret of Mana.

Enjoy!
