Mana Music Monday – Bejeweled City

Posted on November 27th, 2007 by Dr. Sheexy

So this is probably gonna seem pretty boring compared to those video music updates we had the rest of the week, but oh well. I’ll put two up.

Here are two good ones from Legend of Mana that are used at the end of the Jumi story.

City of Flickering Destruction – Yoko Shimomura
[MEDIA=72]
Those Who Are Shining – Yoko Shimomura
[MEDIA=71]

The Jumi storyline was always my favorite of the three main arcs in LoM. These two tracks are basically the same thing, but just a little bit different.

If you’re playing LoM don’t forget that on one of the bottom levels of the Bejeweled city there is a Machine Golem in one of the rooms that you can fight over and over for nice amounts of experience.

Sword of Mana: A Bad Remake

Posted on November 24th, 2007 by Kassidy Kearey

I stumbled across an interesting set of blog articles over on a blog called Game Design Reviews which analyse aspects of Sword of Mana that failed to impress and paled against the game it was trying to “take to a new level”. A very interesting read.

Sword of Mana: Do, don’t show

Sword of Mana: World Design

Sword of Mana: Bad Customization

I’m sure at least Sheexy will enjoy these. 😉

Hiroki Kikuta – Alphabet Planet

Posted on November 21st, 2007 by Kassidy Kearey

Back in August, Secret of Mana composer Hiroki Kikuta released Alphabet Planet, his second album, comprising of 2 discs packed with original material from the master himself. This completely escaped our radar for some bizarre reason until now, and has been pointed out to us by nick912012 on the Forum.

You can get the album over at VGM World for the modest price of 3000 yen (that’s about 29 dollars or 20 euros).

We’ll bring you more coverage on this album soon enough. Thanks again to Nick for the contribution.

Update: Listen to a sample from Kikuta’s homepage here!

Can definitely hear some familiar sounds and tunes in there. Colour of the Summer Sky is in there right at the start, for example. Thanks again Nick for this link.

Polls recap

Posted on November 21st, 2007 by Kassidy Kearey

Over the past few months we’ve started using the Polls feature again here at Seikens, and I thought it would be interesting to do a quick recap of what we’ve found out about the community’s opinions so far.

– Salamander is our most loved Elemental Spirit
– “Closed Garden” from the Seiken Densetsu 3 OST is the most annoying track in the series (I can quite agree)
– Rolante would receive quite a population boost if we had our druthers, as favourite SD3/HoM kingdom
– In SoM, Sword and Spear are the weapons of choice, closely followed by the Whip
– Pets prod Golem buttock in Legend of Mana
– Speaking of which, Legend is the overall favourite SD game, unlike Sword of Mana which received no love at all
– Pokiehl, the Poet of Truth, is free to impart wisdom on us any day
– Gnome lives up to his nature of grampa fix-it in Dawn of Mana, voted the most useful elemental
– Sword of Mana makes a comeback as most loved new Mana Revival game
– Full Metal Haggar is da boss with the most
– Out of the things that go bump in the night, the Vampires/Succubi do it the loudest
– Dark Lich could wipte the floor with the Dragon Emperor any day

So there you have it, the people have spoken! Keep voting! We’ve got lots more questions lined up for you to voice your opinion on.

MMM: The Forest Taught Me Guitar

Posted on November 19th, 2007 by Kassidy Kearey

Another talented chap over on YouTube, CalebElijah, recorded this electric guitar rendition the theme from Secret of Mana’s Upperland forest. While it’s not my favourite song from the game, he’s done a really good job of performing it. Check out his other videogame renditions over on YouTube.

Shoutbox is closed – Updated!

Posted on November 13th, 2007 by Deques

Due to the constant flame wars that happened this past days I have decided to close Shoutbox for a day or two to let all visitors to cool down their temper. I am not pointing anyone who lost his/her temper, but the discussion got a bit too intense.

Shoutbox is not meant to bring a discussion in matter of life, politics or anything else. The purpose for it was just random shouts. If you want to discuss anything of what I mentioned or anything else, please register to board and start a new topic. This is why we have a discussion board. Don’t start it in Shoutbox.

One more thing, I am not nazi about this. Shoutbox is not for discussions, only random shouts.

Update: It is back online

Mana Music Monday – Dawn of Mana Staff Roll

Posted on November 12th, 2007 by Dr. Sheexy

I decided to do something a little different for today’s Mana Music Monday update.
Here for your enjoyment is the staff roll for Dawn of Mana. Don’t worry if you haven’t played the game yet, there aren’t any spoilers in the video just awesome visuals and music.

The two tracks featured here are “The Endless Dream” and “A Legend Forever” by Kenji Ito. These are two of my favorite tracks from the series. “A Legend Forever” dates back to the good old days of Final Fantasy Adventure. “The Endless Dream” stems from “Tale of the Distant Sun” from Children of Mana. It reminds me of a mix between “Rising Sun” and “A Legend Forever” and the vocals harken back to the arranged version of “Mission of Mana” from the Seiken Densetsu – Let Thoughts Ride on Knowledge album.

Anyways, just sit back and enjoy the fun visuals while following the elementals around.
Yarn and felt never looked so awesome.

If you missed all the names you can check them out on the Dawn of Mana Staff Roll page that Kassidy made a while back.

New Remix – Obsession Nocturnal by Sixto Sounds

Posted on November 9th, 2007 by Dr. Sheexy

Hey everybody, there is a new Seiken Densetsu 3 remix that can be downloaded from the remixes section!
If you are lazy you can just listen to it here instead.

Obsession Nocturnal by Sixto Sounds.
[MEDIA=67]

It is a pretty rocking take on Obsession from Seiken Densetsu 3! You can read more about the track or find other remixes by this artist on its OC Remix page.

While you’re at it, you should look around all of OC Remix, they’ve got a huge collection of remixes from almost every song you can think of! That’s pretty cool if you ask me.

Kaze_no_hogosha’s SD3 Doujin

Posted on November 7th, 2007 by Dr. Sheexy

Kaze_no_hogosha from the Message Boards has started work on a doujinshi which will follow the storyline of Seiken Densetsu 3. The first six chapters are going to feature the back story behind each character, and after that the story will focus more on Duran as the main character.

So far there are three pages done and it is looking nice! We don’t have a fan stuff section ready on Seikens yet, but we’re working on it. Until then you can find Kaze’s doujin on the Message Boards.

Click here to see the thread with the pages done so far.

Mana Music Monday – Harvest November

Posted on November 5th, 2007 by Dr. Sheexy

Seeing as this is the first real November update, I thought this music track would be the most fitting.

Harvest November by Hiroki Kikuta.

Also enjoy this arranged version of it from Aether’s CD entitled “Essence Music of Mana”.
