These cards belong in the Main Deck, and share the same card backing as other cards in the deck. Support cards compare to spells from other trading card games. The rulebook suggests a 50 card deck should have around 10 Support cards. 40 Support cards were printed for the Legend of Mana Card Duel collectible card game.
In order to use Support cards, you must meet both the Cost and the Element requirements. The cost of Support cards can be paid with your Available Mana, but the element requirements must be met by having enough Lands of the required element.
Each Support card lists the time the card can be played:
Main PhaseTiming – During the Main Phase you may play as many Support cards as you like. This phase of the game allows you to take many different actions, such as Land Making and Attacking. Note, however, that even though battles occur during the Main Phase, you cannot actually cast Support cards with this timing during battle.
In BattleTiming – These Support cards can be played during battle, but only at very specific times. In Battle Support cards must be played after both players use equipped Items, and before Opening a Face Down Monster, applying element bonuses from Lands to Monsters, or calculating damage. The active player must play all their Support cards first, then the opponent has a chance to play all of the Support cards they wish to.
Cancel Timing – Essentially “counterspells”, the timing of these cards coincides with your opponent playing a specific type of card. These are the only cards that can be played in response to another card. Cards with Cancel timing cannot be Cancelled themselves.
The effects of Support cards vary greatly from card to card, and many have very surprising effects such as coming into play as Lands, Monsters, or Characters.
